guatemala.

the past week has been probably the biggest whirlwind of my life. i will try to write down the details without writing too much. (can't make this thing too long now. i might loose you guys as readers).

last thursday i was on a boat heading to uruguay for the weekend when i received a call from Roberto. "Candi, you need to come to guatemala now." i get off the boat, spend the entire night looking for flights (actually, breezy, shreya, and fonz were amazing.. and helped me out beyond!) we found one.. that left that friday morning.

i pack up and go.

the flight was from buenos aires, to montevideo, to panama, to guatemala. on my way from argentina to uruguay.. [midflight].. the pilot says we have to turn around because a light turned on. (this was the first of many many flight mishaps). the funny thing was.. i could see montevideo from my window.. yet we still turned around. after about 2 hours waiting, we make it uruguay. i had a 13 hour layover. due to foggy conditions.. the layover turned into a 16 hour layover.. causing me to miss my connection in panama. once in panama.. i find a flight to nicaragua.. then finally guatemala. after a full day of travel.

i made it to guate.

papa beto was coming back from his 84th birthday lunch in antigua, guatemala when a drunk driver pushed papa beto, my aunt, uncle, and cousin off the road and into a parked car and a wall. papa beto passed away from head trauma a couple hours later. Papa Beto was such an incredible role model of a true man of God. He influenced my life beyond words.

even though the trip was tough beyond words. it was amazing to have the entire family together. immediate family, extended family, meeting tons of new family members (latino families are massive). courtney got to come down as well!!

and guatemala is just an amazing country! the food there? beyond. we spent our time riding dirtbikes, eating guac, overdosing on tortillas.. it was so great.

thank you so so so much for praying for my family. it is a really hard thing to go through. papa beto lived with my family ever since i was born. but God is so good. and i know this will be used to glorify Him.

on the way back to argentina.. more adventures in the airport. my flight from guatemala to panama was fine. but from panama to uruguay, no bueno. there was fog (again) in montevideo.. so the plane got sent to buenos aires (where i was going.. but it was cheaper to get a flight to uruguay.. and take a boat over the river to b.a.). well.. we were in buenos aires for about 3 hours.. waiting to fly to montevideo (i couldn't get off the plane). finally we got to uruguay, but by that time i had missed my boat. and i had to wait until the next day to take one. but at least i got a day in montevideo! loved it. reminded me of malibu.

i am now getting my TEFL (teach english as a foreign language) certificate. class monday - friday, and i teach an hour long class every thursday and friday! yesterday was my first class! taught intermediate level english! taught about the family, and i drew out my family tree. i was beyond nervous at first. but after a while.. i got way more comfortable. and i actually really enjoyed teaching!

this one was long. and you read it all! thanks.
